RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS
SERENADE TO MUSIC
An Exploration of the Sixteen Singers chosen for the first performance. Includes the recording conducted by Sir Henry Wood

With a jubilee concert marking Sir Henry Wood’s 50 years as a professional conductor being planned in late 1937, Wood’s draft programme included a ‘Vocal Concerted Piece’ for four each of sopranos, contraltos, tenors, and basses. This CD explores each of the chosen sixteen singers through their other recordings.

SINGERS: Walter Widdop, Parry Jones, Frank Titterton, Heddle Nash, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Roy Henderson, Harold Williams, Robert Easton, Norman Allin. Front row (left to right): Isobel Baillie, Elsie Suddaby, Eva Turner, Stiles-Allen, Sir Henry Wood, Margaret Balfour, Astra Desmond, Muriel Brunskill, Mary Jarred.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

The CD cover shows Sir Henry Wood who conducted the first performance and the sixteen singers who partcipated at the Royal Albert Hall.
